Counseling Services

Guidance services are available to students for academic, vocational, and personal development. Appointments with counselors may be requested by students or by their parents. Parents may phone counselors for appointments; students may complete request forms available in the counselors' offices and in the main office.

Some of the specific services offered through the guidance program are:

Individual and/or group academic, career and college counseling.
By special appointment or teacher referral, personal counseling.
Testing, including achievement tests and interest inventories. In October, juniors take the PSAT Exam, sophomores take the PLAN Exam, and freshmen take the EXPLORE Exam. Seniors should avail themselves of the SAT Exams.
Use of a College/Career Center, which contains updated career information as well as college catalogs, admission applications, and scholarship and financial aid applications.
Opportunities to interact with persons from a variety of occupations in classes and in the College/Career Center.
Providing information about employment possibilities as this is received from the community. (The counseling office does not offer a job placement service.)
Opportunities to speak with representatives of colleges who visit the campus.
SAT computer preparation programs are available in the Library for student use.
Financial aid counseling services. All seniors receive financial aid information and applications. There are group workshops and one-on-one sessions to help seniors complete the application process.
Referrals for various types of services are available to students and their families.

College Handbook

Bishop Conaty-Our Lady of Loretto provides college planning information for our students through Get in 2 College's 2007 Handbook at http://www.getin2college.com/private.htm . This service provides useful information on planning for college, visiting colleges, applying to colleges, financing college tuition and fees, summer programs, and links to American unversities and colleges.

Outreach Concern

Bishop Conaty-Our Lady of Loretto High School also engages the services of Outreach Concern, Inc. which offers a full program of services to Catholic school students, their families and faculty members. Services include: on-campus counselors, 24 hour crisis hotline for students, family crisis counseling, substance abuse program counseling and in-service programs. Educational testing services may also be arranged through Outreach Concern at a single fixed fee. Long-term family, individual and marriage counseling is also available through their Service Associate staff of licensed mental health professionals, on a sliding scale of fees. An orientation is provided to parents and students at the beginning of each school year regarding the range of services available through Outreach Concern, and monthly newsletters are available on their website:.http://www.outreachconcern.org .
