Personal Appearance

Uniform

Students should properly wear the complete school uniform both to and from school as well as at all times on campus. The uniform identifies the student as a member of Bishop Conaty-Our Lady of Loretto High School and should be worn with dignity and pride. Laundering and repair of the uniform must be done at a time that will not cause the student to be out of uniform. A student who violates the uniform and personal grooming code will receive a demerit.

The school uniform consists of the burgundy and gray plaid skirt, white polo shirt with school logo, burgundy cardigan sweater, white socks and black and white oxfords. Note: This is considered the DRESS UNIFORM and all students must have this complete uniform before purchasing any options.

The following are uniform options for students:

The uniform must be purchased form Dennis Uniform Manufacturing Company.

The uniform must be purchased prior to the beginning of school. School shorts, slacks and vests are optional wear. The winter polar fleece jacket and the gray Wildcat sweatshirt are the only two acceptable forms of outer wear.

Although students are permitted to interchange their uniform by choosing to wear a skirt, slacks or walking shorts, there will be occasions throughout the year that the student will be requested to wear her DRESS UNIFORM to school. The Dress Uniform consists of white polo shirt with school logo, plaid skirt, black and white oxfords and school cardigan sweater . On these occasions no other uniform options may be worn.

Students may only wear solid white undershirts under their uniform polo shirt; no other kinds of undershirt are permitted.

Athlete's Game-Day Attire

On game days, except dress uniform days, athletes may wear their school uniform, or the following: the Bishop Conaty-Loretto team uniform with solid white tennis shoes, or the Bishop Conaty-Loretto team burgundy sweats with numbered team jersey or team athletic tee-shirt and solid white tennis shoes.

Inclement/Cold Weather

Students are permitted to wear the burgundy winter polar fleece jacket, the burgundy hooded water resistant jacket with sweatshirt lining, and the gray Wildcat sweatshirt to and from school and in between classes during inclement weather. No other jackets are permitted. Students may wear solid white shoes in rainy weather only . Also, solid white tights and/or flesh-colored tights or pantyhose, plain white T-shirts or white turtlenecks may be worn during the cold season only . The dates that the inclement weather uniform options may be worn will be announced. Any infraction of these uniform regulations will result in disciplinary action.

Grooming

Alternate Dress Guidelines

On special occasions an Alternate Dress Day may be permitted. Students also have the option of wearing their school uniform on alternate dress days. Clothes that have a tendency to give an unkempt appearance, even if they meet the letter of the law, are to be avoided. Shirts, blouses and dresses must have sleeves and shoulders. Shirts and blouses must be able to be tucked in. No midriff skin should be showing when a person is standing up straight and holding her arms high above her head. The length of walking-shorts, skirts, and dresses may be no shorter than three inches above the top of the knee when the person is standing up straight ; the top of the knee is the top of the bump formed by the knee cap. The following garments are acceptable, provided they are modest and appropriate for a Catholic girls' high school.

The latest fashions do not always fit the alternate dress guidelines. Any fad or grooming style that is interpreted by school officials as in poor taste, immodest or inappropriate should not be worn to school.

Students who violate the alternate dress guidelines will earn a demerit and lose the alternate dress privilege for the remainder of the school year.
